2021 Röttgerding Winninger Riesling Trocken - Mosel
The Winninger is from steep terraces in the central part of the Winninger Brückstück with vine ages around 40+ years. It is a significant step up in quality and complexity resulting from lower yields, steeper hillsides, and of course, the slate. The acid, mineral, and purity that Riesling is capable of starts to be apparent here. 2021 has an alluring orange blossom, tangerine-like qualitiy that gets elevated and carried by the acid. Aging in small and medium sized neutral barrels also leads to a slight creaminess that complements the stony almost gravely texture and spicy notes. Again this ethereal texture thing that seems to be a thread through the 2021s. Will age very well.
