2021 Röttgerding Riesling - Mosel
This is the entry level dry Riesling from the lower more clay rich slopes of Domgarten. Vines are a bit younger than most of the Röttgerding sites with an average vine age around 25 years. The short of it is that this is damn good Riesling. It packs a ton of flavor, texture, and sense of place into the bottle, especially for the basic offering. Compared with the 2020, the fruit and floral is a bit more subdued, but more than compensated for by the texture/acid balance that the wine shows off. Worth noting is that the 2021 is labeled "HEFETRÜB" which means turbid yeast or more simply interpreted as cloudy. In other words, unfiltered and you can expect a very fine yeast sediment that is natural and normal and contributes to the wonderful mouthfeel. Last year, we were only able to grab 60 bottles so happy to have a bit more this year. Will age well.
